Vanessa is a seminal Czech EBM (Electronic Body Music) outfit, originally formed as Vanessa del Rio in 1990 by Samir Hauser and Dan Rodný. Emerging from the post-Velvet Revolution underground, they pivoted from pornographic soundtrack concepts to a harder, more aggressive industrial sound that garnered a significant cult following in Central Europe.
Their 1994 album 'Monogamy' is widely considered a landmark of the genre in the region, blending provocative lyrical themes with cold, mechanical sequencing. The band has undergone several incarnations, including the Vanessa Gun project with Moimir Papalescu, which integrated more sophisticated synthesizer work.
