Vile Creature

Vile Creature is a Hamilton, Ontario-based duo consisting of Vic and KW, who have become pivotal figures in the 'queer-core' or 'progressive doom' movement. Since their 2014 inception, they have eschewed the nihilism common in extreme metal in favor of a radical, anti-oppressive ethos.

Their sound is characterized by a massive, two-person wall of sound that utilizes down-tuned guitars and punishing percussion to create a sense of overwhelming weight. Critically, they are lauded for their 2020 release 'Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm!' , which integrated choral elements and expanded their sludge foundations into something more cinematic and experimental. They occupy a similar cultural space to artists like Thou and Body Void, prioritizing emotional vulnerability and social justice alongside sonic extremity. Their influence is felt most strongly in the way they have opened up the doom scene to marginalized voices, proving that extreme noise can be a vehicle for profound empathy and community building.
