High-energy New Orleans showmanship meeting satirical rockabilly and timeless holiday sentiment. It is theatrical, slightly rowdy, and unexpectedly tender.
Vince Vance & the Valiants occupy a strange, colorful corner of American music where the grease of 1950s rock and roll meets the satirical edge of the 1980s. Their sound is built on the foundation of New Orleans piano-driven rock, characterized by bouncy rhythms, bright horns, and a frontman who treats every song like a Broadway production. It is music that feels lived-in and slightly eccentric, alternating between high-octane parody and genuine, heart-on-sleeve balladry.
What truly distinguishes the group is their commitment to the 'show' in show business. While many novelty acts rely solely on the joke, the Valiants back it up with legitimate musical chops, particularly in their vocal arrangements and tight, retro-inspired instrumentation. They can pivot from a biting political parody to a lush, orchestral Christmas classic without losing their identity, held together by Andy Stone's charismatic, shape-shifting presence.
To understand the duality of the band, start with their two poles: the satirical 'Bomb Iran' for their rowdy, theatrical side, and the perennial 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' for their softer, melodic country-pop side. They are the ultimate 'good time' band for listeners who appreciate a bit of camp with their craftsmanship.
Vince Vance & the Valiants are an American country pop, rock and roll and novelty musical group from New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The title character Vince Vance is portrayed by Andy Stone, the only permanent member of the group. He was born Andrew John Franichevich Jr. The remainder of the Valiants (or, if female, Valiantettes) are rotating musicians. The group's most sustained hit record, and one that is uncharacteristic of their usual stylings, is the country ballad "All I Want for Christmas Is You", which charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts on six separate occasions in the 1990s. As a novelty band, their best-known record was their 1980 version of the parody song "Bomb Iran", which narrowly missed the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981. On November 20, 2010, Vince Vance was surprised during his performance at a "Louisiana Legends" fundraiser at New Orleans Rock'n Bowl venue, with induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame for his outstanding career, including the Christmas song "All I Want for Christmas is You" and his most current "I Am New Orleans".
