The first is a short-lived pseudonym for psy-trance pioneer Simon Posford (Shpongle, Hallucinogen) used in the late 1990s to explore downtempo dub textures.

The second, and more prolific, is a Sheffield-based producer who became a fixture of the 2010s UK underground. This later iteration of Walter Ego is defined by a sophisticated blend of grime, garage, and dubstep, characterized by heavy sub-bass and intricate, often psychedelic, sound design. His work on labels like Bad Taste Records and Coyote Records helped define a 'weightless' or 'atmospheric grime' aesthetic that prioritized mood and texture alongside dancefloor utility. Critically, he is respected for his ability to maintain a dark, urban edge while incorporating the lush, expansive production techniques usually found in ambient and psychill.
