Willy Moon

Aggressive 1950s rockabilly smashed into modern hip-hop production. Short, sharp bursts of noise-pop energy for high-stakes nights and fast driving.

Intro

Willy Moon sounds like a jukebox from 1955 that has been rewired by a glitch-hop producer in a basement in East London. It is a jarring, thrilling collision of eras where the slap-back echo of Sun Records meets the bone-rattling sub-bass of modern rap. The songs are incredibly lean, rarely breaking the three-minute mark, and they hit with the blunt force of a punk 7-inch record.

What makes him distinctive is the refusal to play the 'retro' card straight. While his aesthetic is pure Greaser, the sonic architecture is built on digital distortion and heavy sampling. He treats the history of American rock and roll not as a sacred relic to be preserved, but as raw material to be chopped, looped, and distorted until it feels dangerous again. It is the sound of a Bo Diddley riff being fed through a meat grinder.

Start with 'Yeah Yeah' to hear the formula at its most infectious and commercial. From there, move to 'Railroad Track' to experience his ability to turn gospel-inflected blues into a stomping industrial anthem. It is music for people who want the swagger of the past without the polite nostalgia.

William George Sinclair (born 2 June 1989), better known by his stage name Willy Moon, is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and producer. He is known for his 2012 single "Yeah Yeah", which appeared on the 2012 Apple iPod advert and peaked at number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. In March 2015, Moon and his wife, Natalia Kills, were fired as judges from The X Factor New Zealand for their harsh and offensive comments towards one of the contestants.
