Along the Wire

Along the Wire is a 2006 EP by Peter Kersten, better known as Lawrence, released on his own Dial Records imprint. The release is notable for showcasing the intersection of the 'Kompakt' sound (via Superpitcher) and the 'M-nus' sound (via Troy Pierce) during the height of the minimal techno era. While Lawrence's original work often incorporates field recordings and a certain 'gardening' aesthetic, this EP is defined by its collaborators' interpretations. Superpitcher's mix is a quintessential example of the 'Pop-Ambient' influence on techno, utilizing a weeping synth motif that has become a hallmark of his style. Troy Pierce provides two distinct versions that represent the darker, more rhythmic 'minimal' sound of the mid-2000s, characterized by high-frequency clicks and deep, sub-bass movements. Historically, this EP serves as a temporal snapshot of the German electronic scene when the lines between house, techno, and ambient were beautifully blurred.
