Denim and Leather

Released in September 1981, Denim and Leather represents the culmination of Saxon's 'classic' era, following Wheels of Steel and Strong Arm of the Law. Recorded at Aquarius Studios in Geneva, it was the final album to feature the original lineup including drummer Pete Gill. The record is historically significant for its role in codifying the NWOBHM aesthetic, particularly through its title track which served as a tribute to the subculture's growing fanbase. Musically, the album is defined by its 'galloping' rhythm - a hallmark of the genre - and the dual-guitar attack of Quinn and Oliver. While it marked the end of their most prolific streak before a shift toward the US market, it remains their most culturally resonant work, spawning enduring live staples like 'Princess of the Night' and 'And the Bands Played On'.
