Distractions

Released in 2010, Distractions represents a pivotal shift in Regurgitator's operational philosophy. Following a long tenure with Warner Australia and a subsequent stint on Valve Records, the band embraced a 'new paradigm' of music distribution, choosing to record and release tracks as they were completed rather than adhering to the traditional album cycle. This EP was the first manifestation of that 'home studio' approach, recorded shortly after the band relocated to Melbourne. Sonically, it moves away from the heavy funk and punk influences of their 90s heyday, favoring a cleaner, more electronic indie-pop sound. The EP features the track 'Miranda July,' a nod to the influential indie filmmaker/artist, which highlights the band's continued engagement with contemporary culture. Critics noted the release for its lean production and the way it successfully translated the band's quirky energy into a more mature, digital-first format.
