Doublejointed EP

Released in March 1995, Doublejointed is a pivotal EP from RAC (not to be confused with the later remix project), a project that helped define the 'Artificial Intelligence' era of British electronic music. While many of their peers moved toward more polished digital sounds, RAC leaned into the imperfections of analog hardware. This EP features a remake of 'Distance' and the sprawling 'Nine,' showcasing a range from brittle electro-funk to deep, cavernous ambient techno. The production is notable for its heavy use of tape saturation and subtle pitch instability, which gives the tracks a 'haunted' quality. Historically, it sits alongside the early Warp and Rephlex catalogs as a document of the UK's experimental techno scene, prioritizing texture and mood over traditional song structure. It remains a cult favorite for its uncompromisingly murky and cerebral atmosphere.
