Grom

Released in 1996, Grom represents the peak of Behemoth's early pagan black metal phase. Recorded at a time when the Polish scene was rapidly evolving, the album distinguishes itself through the prominent use of acoustic guitars, synthesizers, and female guest vocals (courtesy of Celina), which were controversial among purists at the time. Lyrically, Nergal moved away from pure Satanism toward Slavonic paganism and nature worship, specifically focusing on the Pomeranian forests and the Baltic Sea. The production is quintessential mid-90s black metal: raw, reverb-drenched, and dynamic. While the band would later become world-renowned for their technical blackened death metal style starting with 'Satanica', Grom remains a fan favorite for its unique atmosphere and its role in defining the 'Pagan' sub-movement within the genre. It serves as a bridge between the primitive 'Sventevith' and the more experimental 'Pandemonic Incantations'.
