Jugulator

Released in 1997, Jugulator marks one of the most significant turning points in the Judas Priest discography. It is the first album to feature vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens, who was famously recruited from a tribute band after the departure of Rob Halford. Sonically, the album is a radical departure from the 'Painkiller' era, leaning heavily into the groove metal and thrash influences that dominated the 1990s. Guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing utilized lower tunings (C# and C) to achieve a modern, heavier texture, while the lyrical themes shifted toward nihilism, mechanical horror, and apocalyptic dread. While the album initially polarized the fanbase due to the absence of Halford, it has gained a cult following for its uncompromising aggression and the progressive brilliance of its closing track, 'Cathedral Spires'. It remains the band's most extreme studio recording.
