Cause for Conflict

Released in 1995, Cause for Conflict represents a unique chapter in Kreator's history, often cited as their 'groove metal' phase. Following the polarizing experimentation of Renewal, the band attempted to bridge the gap between their thrash roots and the contemporary industrial-metal sounds of the time. It is the only album to feature drummer Joe Cangelosi, whose technical, high-velocity style pushed the band toward a more frantic, mechanical sound. The album also marked the debut of long-time bassist Christian Giesler. Sonically, the record is defined by its high-tension production and lyrical focus on anarchy, social decay, and mental isolation. While it was initially met with mixed reactions for its departure from pure thrash, it has since gained a cult following for its uncompromising aggression and its successful integration of industrial textures into a thrash framework. The closing track, 'Isolation,' is particularly notable for its nearly 12-minute runtime, ending the album on a haunting, atmospheric note.
