Kodama

Released in 2017, Kodama represents a refined evolution of Reso's 'maximalist' philosophy. While his earlier work often leaned into the more aggressive tropes of dubstep and drum and bass, this EP showcases a more nuanced, cinematic approach. The title track, 'Kodama', takes its name from the tree spirits of Japanese folklore, and the music reflects this through its blend of organic atmospheres and biomechanical glitch. The production is characterized by its surgical micro-editing, where drum fills are broken down into thousandths of a second and reassembled into complex, driving patterns. Across its four tracks, the EP moves from the sprawling, eight-minute epic of the title track to the more condensed, rhythmic experiments of 'Mantis' and 'Fluid Mechanics'. It stands as a high-water mark for technical bass music in the UK, synthesizing elements of techno, glitch, and neurofunk into a singular, high-fidelity experience.
