Leylines

Released in 2019, Leylines represents a significant maturation in Rising Appalachia's 'urban-roots' sound. Produced by the legendary Joe Henry and recorded over ten days at Panoramic House in Marin County, the album deliberately explores the concept of 'leylines' - invisible energy paths connecting disparate parts of the globe. This is sonically represented through the integration of Appalachian banjo and fiddle with West African instruments like the n'goni and kora, alongside the soulful jazz trumpet of Maurice Turner. The album features notable collaborations with Ani DiFranco and Trevor Hall, further cementing its place at the intersection of folk, activism, and world music. Critically, it was praised for its eclectic yet tasteful arrangements and its ability to modernize traditional folk structures. The single 'Resilient' became a viral anthem for social movements, highlighting the band's role as cultural bridge-builders. It remains their most commercially successful and sonically diverse work to date.
