Mudvayne

Released in 2009, Mudvayne's self-titled fifth album stands as their final studio statement before a long hiatus. It is widely regarded by the band and fans as their most 'math-oriented' work since their debut, 'L.D. 50'. Recorded during the same sessions as 'The New Game', this album was intentionally held back to be released as a standalone piece of art, featuring a world-first blacklight-reactive cover. Sonically, it emphasizes the technical interplay between drummer Matt McDonough and bassist Ryan Martinie, whose slap-bass technique remains a central pillar of the band's sound. While it retains the alternative metal foundations of their later work, the song structures are notably more complex, featuring frequent tempo changes and polyrhythms. Critically, it was seen as a return to form for their technical side, though it divided those who preferred their more melodic, accessible period.
