Perseverance

Released in 2002 on Universal Records, Perseverance is the pivotal moment where Hatebreed transitioned from underground hardcore legends to a global metal powerhouse. Produced by Matt Hyde and mixed by Randy Staub, the album brought a high-fidelity sheen to the band's 'beatdown' style without sacrificing its grit. It is historically significant for being the last album to feature guitarist Lou Richards and for its role in codifying the 'metalcore' sound of the early 2000s, blending Slayer-esque thrash riffs with the rhythmic sensibilities of New York Hardcore. Lyrically, the album moved away from typical genre tropes of scene politics toward universal themes of self-empowerment and mental fortitude, a shift that helped it reach a massive audience.
