Roorback

Released in 2003, Roorback represents a pivotal moment for Sepultura as they solidified their identity with frontman Derrick Green. Following the experimental 'Nation', this album saw the band stripping back their sound to a more direct, groove-oriented approach. Recorded at AR Studios in Rio de Janeiro, the production is notably drier and more focused on the interplay between Andreas Kisser’s rhythmic riffing and Igor Cavalera’s precise, hard-hitting percussion. The album is also notable for its extensive bonus material, including covers of Public Enemy and U2, which highlight the band's diverse influences and their ability to translate non-metal genres into their signature heavy style. While it moved away from the 'world music' fusion of 'Roots', it maintained the band's reputation for fierce political commentary and rhythmic innovation within the thrash and groove metal subgenres.
