Released simultaneously with 'Lemuria' in 2004, Sirius B represents the peak of Therion's mid-career ambition. Christofer Johnsson utilized a massive budget to record with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and a professional choir, moving the band further away from their death metal roots into a pure symphonic-progressive hybrid. The album is conceptually focused on various esoteric traditions, astronomical mysteries (specifically the Sirius star system), and ancient deities. Musically, it is noted for its sophisticated vocal arrangements, where the choir is treated as the primary melodic vehicle rather than a background texture.
