Skyforger

Skyforger, released in 2009, represents the pinnacle of Amorphis's third era, characterized by the versatile vocal performance of Tomi Joutsen. Following the success of Eclipse and Silent Waters, this album solidified the band's transition from their death-doom roots into a premier progressive melodic metal act. Conceptually, the album focuses on the character of Ilmarinen, the heroic blacksmith of the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. Musically, it is noted for its heavy integration of 1970s progressive rock elements, particularly the prominent use of Hammond organs and Moog synthesizers by Santeri Kallio. The album was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios and produced by the band alongside Mikko Karmila and Marco Hietala. It achieved significant commercial success in Finland, with the single 'Silver Bride' reaching number one on the national charts.
