Stator

Released in 2015 on the prestigious Touch label, Stator marks a significant reunion for Geir Jenssen (Biosphere) and Helge Sten (Deathprod), who first collaborated in 1998. The album is structured as a split release, with Jenssen contributing the first three tracks and Sten the final four. Commissioned by Tape to Zero, the project highlights the distinct but complementary approaches of these two titans of Norwegian electronic music. Jenssen utilizes his expertise in loops and spatial depth, while Sten employs his 'Audio Virus' methodology, involving homemade electronics and vintage outboard gear to create dense, murky textures. The album was mastered by Sten himself, ensuring a cohesive sonic signature despite the differing compositional styles. It stands as a bridge between the 'Arctic Ambient' sound Jenssen pioneered and the 'Infra-red' dark ambient associated with Deathprod's solo work.
