THE OTHER ONE

Released in 2023, THE OTHER ONE is Babymetal's fourth studio album and their first true concept record. Created during a period of 'sealing' or hiatus, the album serves as a 'restoration project' where each of the ten tracks represents a different parallel world within a virtual Metalverse. Sonically, it is a departure from the high-speed power metal and playful gimmicks of their earlier work, leaning heavily into progressive metal, industrial textures, and cinematic arrangements. It is the final album featuring Su-metal and Moametal as a duo before the official addition of Momometal. Critics from Metal Hammer and Kerrang! praised the album for its maturity and cohesive vision, noting that while it lacks the 'shock factor' of their debut, it stands as their most musically sophisticated work to date. The track 'Divine Attack (Shingeki)' is particularly notable as the first song where Su-metal contributed to the lyrics, signaling a shift toward more personal creative involvement from the members.
