The Senja Recordings

Released in 2019, The Senja Recordings marks a return to the pure environmental ambient roots of Biosphere, moving away from the more structured rhythmic experiments of his mid-career. The album was recorded on the island of Senja in northern Norway, inside a cabin overlooking the Bergsfjorden. Jenssen utilized a portable studio setup, incorporating field recordings from the immediate surroundings and shortwave radio signals captured on-site. This context is vital; the track titles are largely named after local geographical features (Skålbrekka, Bergsbotn, Lysbotn). Critically, the album was praised for its 'hauntological' qualities - the way it uses lo-fi textures and loops to evoke a sense of memory and place. It stands as one of the most literal 'arctic' albums in his catalog, eschewing the cinematic polish of Substrata for something more raw, intimate, and documentary-like.
