Time Shall Tell

Released in 1990, Time Shall Tell is a pivotal early EP in the discography of the Swedish band Therion. While the band would eventually become world-renowned as pioneers of symphonic metal, this release captures them during their formative death metal phase. The EP consists of four tracks that would later appear on their debut full-length, Of Darkness..., but presented here in unreleased and demo versions. Sonically, it is a quintessential example of the early Swedish death metal sound: heavy on the 'Sunlight Studio' style distortion, featuring guttural vocals and a mix of fast-paced thrashy sections and slower, doom-influenced passages. The recording context is raw, reflecting the underground DIY spirit of the era. Critically, it is viewed as a foundational document that shows the band's early interest in complex, slightly progressive arrangements even within the confines of a brutal genre.
