True Self

Released in 2006, True Self marks a pivotal transition for SOiL following the departure of original vocalist Ryan McCombs. The introduction of A.J. Cavalier brought a different vocal texture to the band - a raspy, baritone delivery that leaned further into the band's hard rock and post-grunge influences while maintaining their signature metal weight. This album is also historically significant as the final recording to feature rhythm guitarist Shaun Glass. Sonically, the record moves away from the polished nu-metal tropes of the early 2000s, opting for a drier, more organic guitar tone and a focus on groove-heavy songwriting. Despite a premature leak on P2P networks two months before release, the album solidified the band's second era, supported by extensive touring with peers like Sevendust and Godsmack.
