Blacknuss

Blacknuss (originally Blacknuss Collective) is a cornerstone of the Swedish soul and R&B scene, emerging in 1990 from the Stockholm club of the same name. Founded by drummer Martin Jonsson and the late bassist/producer Christian Falk, the group was instrumental in defining a specific Scandinavian approach to black music.

Their sound identity is built on a formidable rhythm section influenced by the minimalist but heavy styles of Sly & Robbie, layered with sophisticated horn arrangements and a rotating ensemble of vocalists. Their 1995 debut, 'Made in Sweden', was a landmark release that proved Swedish musicians could master the nuances of acid jazz and funk with international credibility. Throughout the late 90s and 2000s, they evolved into a versatile 'Allstars' collective, collaborating with various pop and soul artists. Critically, they are respected for their technical proficiency and their role as a cultural bridge, bringing the aesthetics of the UK acid jazz scene to a Nordic context. Their influence persists in the vibrant Swedish soul scene, paving the way for artists like Kaah and Stephen Simmonds.
