Bulldozer

Bulldozer is a foundational pillar of Italian extreme metal, formed in Milan in 1980. Their early sound was heavily influenced by the 'New Wave of British Heavy Metal' and the speed of Motörhead, but they quickly pushed these boundaries into what is now recognized as proto-black metal.

Their debut, 'The Day of Wrath,' produced by Algy Ward of Tank, established them as a raw, satanic-themed power trio. However, the band's trajectory was defined by a refusal to conform to industry standards, leading to zero-star reviews from mainstream press which the band wore as a badge of honor. As they evolved, they introduced keyboards and samples, particularly on 'Neurodeliri,' and shifted their lyrical focus toward social satire and pornographic irony on 'IX.' This uncompromising stance ensured they remained a cult entity, yet their influence on the subsequent black and thrash metal scenes is significant, particularly among bands that value raw production and a 'no-sell-out' attitude. They represent the bridge between 70s punk energy and 90s extreme metal darkness.
