Cryonic Temple is a Swedish power metal institution formed in 1996 in Borlänge. They emerged during the second wave of European power metal, a period characterized by a return to melodic sensibilities and epic themes.
Throughout their career, the band has navigated significant lineup changes, with founding guitarist Esa Ahonen remaining the primary creative anchor. Their early work, such as 'Chapter I' and 'Blood, Guts & Glory', leaned heavily into traditional 'dragons and steel' imagery, but they later matured into more varied lyrical territory, including sci-fi concepts on 'Into the Glorious Battle'. Critically, they are respected for their consistency and their ability to maintain the high-energy, anthemic standards of the Swedish scene. Their sound is a bridge between the classic heavy metal of the 1980s and the more symphonic, polished production of 21st-century power metal.
