Firewind

Firewind is a Greek power metal institution formed in 1998 by guitar virtuoso Gus G. (Kostas Karamitroudis).

Originally a vehicle for a demo tape, the project evolved into a premier international touring act. The band's sound identity is built on the 'shred' tradition, heavily influenced by neoclassical masters like Yngwie Malmsteen but tempered with the melodic sensibilities of Scorpions and the rhythmic weight of Judas Priest. A defining era for the band was Gus G.' s tenure as Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist (2009-2017), which brought global visibility to Firewind's catalog. The band has maintained a consistent output despite numerous lineup changes, particularly in the vocal department, transitioning from the soulful grit of Apollo Papathanasio to the versatile power of Herbie Langhans. Critically, they are respected for avoiding the 'cheesy' pitfalls of power metal by maintaining a harder, rock-oriented edge and superior production values. They occupy a central node in the European metal scene, connecting traditional heavy metal fans with the technical guitar community.
