Dark Princess

Dark Princess is a prominent Russian gothic metal project formed in 2004 by Olga Romanova and Vitaly Chulkov. Emerging during the height of the 'female-fronted metal' boom, the band quickly distinguished itself within the Russian market through high production values and Romanova's accessible yet dramatic vocal style.

Their sound identity is characterized by a fusion of gothic rock's atmospheric gloom, the rhythmic weight of alternative metal, and the melodic structures of European symphonic metal. Throughout their career, they have navigated a unique path by releasing material in both English and Russian, allowing them to bridge the gap between the local Moscow scene and the broader European gothic community, notably signing with the German label Out Of Line. After a period of relative silence following Romanova's initial departure, the project saw a significant revival in 2020, reclaiming its position with a series of albums that lean into more modern symphonic elements. Critically, they are viewed as a cornerstone of 2000s Russian metal, often compared to acts like Krypteria or Elysion for their ability to blend heavy instrumentation with pop-adjacent vocal melodies.
