Metalium

Metalium (TR) is a foundational pillar of the Turkish thrash metal scene, formed in 1985 in Istanbul. While often confused with the German power metal band of the same name, the Turkish Metalium represents a significantly different sonic identity rooted in the aggressive, raw aesthetics of the first wave of thrash.

Their early work, particularly the 'Servants of Death' demo and the 'Behind the Power' album, is characterized by its high-speed execution and social commentary, reflecting the tensions of their local environment. The band's sound is heavily influenced by the Bay Area thrash movement and early Teutonic speed metal, yet it maintains a distinctively gritty, unpolished edge. Despite periods of inactivity, their 2020 return with 'Tenebris' demonstrated a commitment to their original high-energy template while updating the production for a modern era. They remain a cult favorite among crate-diggers of international metal and are cited as a major influence on the subsequent generations of Turkish extreme music.
