Nanowar of Steel

High-octane power metal that skewers every cliché in the book. It is technically brilliant, deeply ridiculous, and perfect for when you need a heavy metal laugh.

Intro

Nanowar of Steel sounds like a world-class power metal band that accidentally wandered into a comedy club and decided to stay. Their music is a dizzying blend of soaring operatic vocals, lightning-fast guitar solos, and symphonic grandeur, all delivered with a wink and a nudge. One moment they are channeling the epic scale of Manowar, and the next they are pivoting into reggaeton, disco, or Italian folk, proving that their musical chops are as sharp as their wit.

What makes them truly distinctive is the precision of their parody. They don't just mock metal; they inhabit it. Every trope, from the obsession with 'true steel' to the over-the-top fantasy imagery, is recreated with such high-fidelity production that it could pass for a serious release if you didn't listen to the lyrics. Their ability to jump between languages and musical styles while maintaining a cohesive, high-energy metal foundation is unmatched in the comedy rock scene.

Start with 'Dislike to False Metal' or 'Italian Folk Metal' to hear them at their most polished and versatile. These albums showcase their evolution from a simple pun-based act into a sophisticated satirical force. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the sound of epic metal but finds the self-seriousness of the genre a bit much to handle.

Nanowar of Steel (stylised as NanowaR of Steel by the band) is an Italian comedy heavy metal band. Their name is a pun on the metal bands Manowar and Rhapsody of Fire, and represents their tendency to satirize "true metal", the primary focus of their music. Their work mainly aims to make humorous references to and jokes about the genre, often parodying the way in which power metal bands are perceived to take themselves very seriously. In 2006, the band changed their name from Nanowar to Nanowar of Steel, as a parody of the Italian power metal band Rhapsody changing their name to Rhapsody of Fire after a legal dispute. On their logo, the "of Steel" part was made to look like it was quickly and carelessly scribbled behind the main name as an afterthought.
