ORM

ORM is a Danish black metal band formed in 2015, emerging from the ashes of the melodic death metal act By the Patient. Based in Copenhagen, they have become a leading force in the modern Scandinavian extreme metal scene.

Their sound is characterized by a 'post-black' sensibility, eschewing the lo-fi tropes of the genre for high-fidelity, expansive production and complex, progressive song structures. Their 2019 album 'Ir' was a critical breakthrough, featuring only two tracks that each spanned over twenty minutes, exploring themes of grief and the cyclical nature of life. This was followed by 'Intet · Altet' in 2022, which further refined their epic approach. Influenced by both the second-wave black metal of the 90s and the atmospheric post-metal of the 2000s, ORM occupies a space similar to artists like Wolves in the Throne Room or Panopticon, but with a distinctly Danish melodic core. They are highly regarded for their live performances, which translate the massive scale of their studio work into a visceral, immersive experience. Critical consensus highlights their ability to make extreme music feel deeply human and emotionally resonant.
