Formed in Nagoya in 1982, OUTRAGE stands as one of the most resilient and consistent pillars of the Japanese thrash metal movement. While many of their peers in the 'Big 4' of Japanese metal (alongside United, Jurassic Jade, and Casbah) fluctuated in activity, OUTRAGE is notable for never officially disbanding or pausing their four-decade career.

Their sound identity is rooted in the mid-80s speed metal explosion, heavily influenced by the NWOBHM's melodic sensibility and the Bay Area thrash scene's rhythmic violence. Naoki Hashimoto's vocal style, a gritty but controlled bark, provided a signature focal point until his temporary departure in 1999, during which the band operated as a power trio. His return in 2007 signaled a creative renaissance. Critical consensus positions them as 'musician's musicians' within the genre, respected for their technical proficiency and refusal to dilute their sound for commercial appeal. They occupy a vital cultural space as the link between traditional heavy metal and the more extreme hardcore and death metal scenes that followed in Japan.
