Pyramaze

Pyramaze is a cornerstone of the Danish melodic metal scene, bridging the gap between the theatricality of European power metal and the rhythmic complexity of progressive metal. Formed in 2001 by guitarist Michael Kammeyer, the band has survived multiple high-profile vocalist changes, including tenures by Lance King and Matt Barlow, before finding a stable and highly successful modern era with Teramaze vocalist Terje Harøy.

Their sound is defined by the 'Hansen Sound' - a reference to producer and long-time collaborator Jacob Hansen - which emphasizes punchy, compressed drums and ultra-clean guitar tracking. Culturally, they represent the 'melodic-prog' movement, prioritizing song structure and emotional payoff over aimless shredding. Their evolution from the fantasy-themed 'Legend of the Bone Carver' to the more existential and sci-fi leaning 'Epitaph' shows a band maturing alongside their audience, moving from genre tropes toward a signature cinematic identity.
