Razor

Razor is a foundational pillar of the Canadian thrash metal scene, often cited alongside Voivod, Sacrifice, and Annihilator as part of the country's 'Big Four'. Formed in 1983 in Guelph, Ontario, the band is defined by the singular vision of guitarist and primary songwriter Dave Carlo.

Their sound is a bridge between the NWOBHM-influenced speed metal of the early 80s and the more extreme, abrasive thrash that would follow. Throughout their career, particularly on seminal releases like 'Evil Invaders' (1985) and 'Violent Restitution' (1988), Razor maintained a 'street-ready' aesthetic, eschewing the polish of major-label thrash for a raw, uncompromising production style. Their influence is particularly noted in the 'thrash revival' and 'speed metal' circles of the 21st century, where their straightforward, high-velocity approach is viewed as a blueprint for the genre's purest form. Despite lineup changes, most notably the transition from vocalist Stace 'Sheepdog' McLaren to Bob Reid, the band's core identity of high-speed, riff-driven aggression has remained remarkably consistent over four decades.
