Slapp Happy

Slapp Happy occupies a unique intersection between the German Krautrock scene and the British Canterbury sound. Formed in Hamburg in 1972 by Anthony Moore, Peter Blegvad, and Dagmar Krause, the group initially utilized members of the experimental band Faust as their rhythm section, resulting in a primitive, 'naive' pop aesthetic. Their sound evolved into a more sophisticated, chamber-pop style characterized by Blegvad's dense, intellectual lyricism and Krause's idiosyncratic vocal style, which draws heavily from the tradition of German cabaret and Brechtian theater.
