Stress

Stress is a seminal Brazilian heavy metal band formed in 1977 in Belém, Pará. They are widely recognized by historians and collectors as the pioneers of heavy metal in Brazil, having released the country's first full-length metal album in 1982.

Their sound is a critical link in the evolution of extreme music, characterized by a high-speed approach that many argue predates the formalization of thrash metal in North America. Led by vocalist and bassist Roosevelt 'Bala' Cavalcante, the band's early work, particularly the self-titled debut and 'Flor Atômica', showcases a raw, speed-oriented style that influenced the legendary Belo Horizonte scene (including Sepultura and Sarcófago). Despite geographic isolation from the global metal centers, Stress developed a sophisticated yet primitive aggression that remains a touchstone for 'cult' metal enthusiasts.
