Durnoe Vlijanie (Bad Influence) emerged in 1987 from the fertile Leningrad rock scene, formed by veterans of the underground projects Mekhanicheskiy Balet and Monument Strakha. They represent the 'gothic' wing of the Soviet post-punk movement, moving away from the bard-influenced songwriting of their peers toward a sound heavily influenced by The Cure, Joy Division, and Bauhaus.

Their debut performance at the 6th Leningrad Rock Festival in 1988 marked them as a significant force, showcasing a level of technical precision and atmospheric depth that was rare for the era. Their primary work, 'Nepodvizhnost' (1989), is a cornerstone of Russian darkwave, characterized by its 'cold' production and existential lyricism. While the band's initial run was short-lived following Skvorcov's departure in 1990, they remain a cult favorite among collectors of Eastern Bloc post-punk. Critically, they are viewed as a vital link between the early 80s new wave and the more aggressive industrial and darkwave sounds that would follow in the 1990s.
