Ved Buens Ende

Ved Buens Ende is a seminal Norwegian avant-garde metal band formed in 1994, primarily consisting of Vicotnik (Dødheimsgard) and Carl-Michael Eide (Virus, Aura Noir). Their sound represented a radical departure from the 'Second Wave' black metal orthodoxy of their peers, integrating elements of jazz fusion, post-punk, and atonality.

Their sole full-length album, 'Written in Waters' (1995), is considered a masterpiece of the genre, influencing a wide array of experimental metal acts. The band's identity is anchored by Eide's distinctive 'drunken' baritone croon and Vicotnik's dissonant, arpeggiated guitar work. Historically, they bridge the gap between the raw intensity of early Norwegian black metal and the sophisticated 'post-metal' and 'avant-metal' movements that followed. After a long hiatus and the formation of the spiritual successor band Virus, they reunited in 2019, maintaining a cult status as one of the most original voices in extreme music history.
