Versailles is a cornerstone of the Japanese Visual Kei scene, specifically the 'Tanbi-kei' (aesthetic) subgenre. Formed in 2007 by Kamijo (Lareine) and Hizaki (Sulfuric Acid), the band was conceived as a 'Philharmonic Quintet' that would embody the concept of 'The Descendants of the Rose.'

Their sound identity is a rigorous blend of European Power Metal and Neo-Classical shredding, heavily influenced by the likes of X Japan and Malice Mizer. The band is famous for its technical proficiency, particularly the synchronized guitar work of Hizaki and Teru. Despite the tragic loss of original bassist Jasmine You in 2009, the band maintained their trajectory, signing with Warner Music Japan and achieving significant international success.
