Younger Brother

Intricate, liquid electronica that blurs the line between organic band energy and digital psychedelia. Perfect for deep headphone immersion and late-night exploration.

Intro

Younger Brother sounds like the moment a computer starts dreaming of the natural world. It is a lush, high-definition tapestry of sound where squelchy, resonant synthesizers weave through crisp, live-sounding percussion and warm, undulating basslines. The music feels liquid and constantly in motion, shifting from subterranean downtempo grooves to soaring, cinematic peaks that suggest vast, alien landscapes.

What truly sets them apart is the pedigree of Simon Posford and Benji Vaughan, who bring a level of psychedelic detail usually reserved for high-bpm trance into a much more patient, song-oriented framework. They masterfully blend the 'glitchy' unpredictability of IDM with the emotional weight of art-rock, especially in their later work where soulful vocals are treated as just another malleable texture in the mix.

Start with 'A Flock of Bleeps' if you want a masterclass in psychedelic downtempo, or 'The Last Days of Gravity' for a more melodic, structured journey. It is music that demands your full attention, rewarding the listener with hidden layers and sonic Easter eggs that only reveal themselves on the tenth or twentieth listen.

Younger Brother is an electronic duo formed in 2003 by Simon Posford and Benji Vaughan. Their debut album A Flock of Bleeps was released in 2003, followed by The Last Days of Gravity in 2007, and Vaccine in 2011. After making a remix for a charity record, Simon Posford (Shpongle, Hallucinogen) and Benji Vaughan (Prometheus) formed the band.
