Zombi

Propulsive analog synths and motorik drumming that feel like a lost 1980s sci-fi chase scene. Epic, cinematic instrumentals for late-night drives and deep focus.

Intro

Zombi sounds like the moment a retro-futurist vision becomes reality. It is the sonic equivalent of a sleek, chrome spacecraft gliding through a nebula, powered by the warmth of analog circuitry and the relentless precision of human percussion. The music occupies a space between the eerie tension of a John Carpenter score and the cosmic grandeur of 70s progressive rock, creating a soundscape that feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking.

What truly distinguishes the duo is their ability to sound like a massive ensemble despite being a two-man operation. Steve Moore’s interlocking synth arpeggios and melodic basslines provide a lush, harmonic floor, while A.E. Paterra’s drumming brings a physical, driving energy that keeps the compositions from drifting too far into ambient territory. There is a palpable sense of 'musical trust' in their timing, where every rhythmic shift feels calculated yet organic.

For those new to the band, Cosmos is the essential starting point for their space-rock foundations, while Escape Velocity leans harder into the hypnotic, danceable pulses of Italo-disco. If you want something with more grit and rock-oriented muscle, their later work like 2020 showcases a heavier, more aggressive side of their synth-driven world.

Zombi is an American electronic music duo from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, consisting of Steve Moore on bass and synthesizers and Anthony Paterra on drums. The group makes use of looping to create multi-layered compositions. They have toured with Don Caballero, Isis, Orthrelm, The Psychic Paramount, Daughters, Red Sparowes, These Arms Are Snakes, Trans Am, and Goblin. They are currently signed to Relapse Records. In 2006, the band signed with Belgian record label Hypertension Records to release Surface to Air on vinyl. Moore was previously a member of Microwaves, a metal/no-wave band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and has toured with Red Sparowes. Paterra is a former member of the Pittsburgh band The 1985. Their song "Sapphire" was remixed by Norwegian DJ/producer Prins Thomas.
