Galactic Melt

Released in 2011 on Ghostly International, Galactic Melt is Seth Haley's debut full-length as Com Truise and remains his most influential work. The album was pivotal in bridging the gap between the burgeoning chillwave scene and the more structured world of synthwave. Haley utilized a specific 'slow-motion funk' template, characterized by BPMs that feel dragged and synths that utilize heavy pitch modulation to mimic the wow and flutter of worn magnetic tape. Critics, including those at BBC Music and AllMusic, noted its ability to evoke specific visual memories of 1980s media without falling into parody. The album's technical achievement lies in its dense layering; despite the 'lo-fi' tags often associated with the genre, the production is remarkably sophisticated, featuring complex syncopation and a wide stereo field that rewards headphone listening.
