Pathogen

Released in 2010 as the sophomore effort from Poland's Made of Hate, Pathogen solidified the band's reputation as the premier Eastern European answer to the Finnish melodic death metal scene. Following their debut 'Bullet in Your Head', this record saw the band leaning further into neoclassical influences, largely driven by the technical prowess of lead guitarist and vocalist Michał Kostrzyński. The album is characterized by its 'surgical' production style, a hallmark of the AFM Records roster at the time, which prioritizes clarity and high-frequency definition over raw atmosphere. While many of their Polish peers moved toward blackened death metal, Made of Hate remained committed to the high-speed, lead-heavy tradition of bands like Children of Bodom or Norther. Pathogen stands as a high-water mark for technical melodeath, often cited for its relentless pace and the seamless integration of shred-heavy solos into traditional song structures.
