The Mandrake Project

Released in 2024, The Mandrake Project marks Bruce Dickinson’s first solo studio album in 19 years, following 2005’s Tyranny of Souls. Developed alongside long-term collaborator Roy Z, the album is part of a larger multi-media project including a comic book series. Sonically, it represents a departure from the 'gallop' of Iron Maiden, favoring a heavier, more mid-tempo approach that incorporates elements of doom metal, hard rock, and even surf-rock. The track 'Eternity Has Failed' is a reimagining of 'If Eternity Should Fail' from Iron Maiden’s The Book of Souls, restored here to its original solo vision. Recorded primarily at the Doom Room in LA, the album showcases Dickinson's vocal versatility, utilizing his lower register more frequently while still delivering his signature high-tenor peaks. It was met with high critical praise for its ambition and the strength of Roy Z's production.
