The Stage

The Stage is Avenged Sevenfold's seventh studio album and their most ambitious departure from their hard rock roots. Released as a surprise after a rooftop live stream, the album marks their first collaboration with drummer Brooks Wackerman, whose technical proficiency pushed the band into a more progressive metal direction. Lyrically, it is a concept album centered on the 'Fermi Paradox,' artificial intelligence, and the self-destructive nature of human society. The production, handled by the band and Joe Barresi, emphasizes a natural drum sound and wide dynamic range, eschewing the 'loudness war' trends of modern metal. The centerpiece is the closing track 'Exist,' a 15-minute sonic representation of the Big Bang and the evolution of life.
