Morgana Lefay is a seminal Swedish metal band that carved out a unique niche by synthesizing the melodic sensibilities of power metal with the aggressive rhythmic foundation of thrash and groove metal. Formed in 1989 in Bollnäs, they emerged during a transition period for heavy music, avoiding the hair metal trends of the 80s and the burgeoning death metal scene to create something more traditional yet distinctly dark.

Their sound identity is defined by mid-paced tempos, heavy use of minor keys, and the distinctive, raspy, and theatrical vocals of Charles Rytkönen.
