Intro

Zhanna Aguzarova sounds like a 1950s rock-and-roll star who was abducted by aliens and returned to Earth with a four-octave range and a wardrobe from the future. Her music is a vibrant collision of slapback guitar echoes, brassy saxophone riffs, and a vocal presence that is both crystalline and wildly unpredictable. It carries the warmth of analog tape and the sharp edge of Soviet-era rebellion.

What truly sets her apart is the sheer fearlessness of her delivery. She moves effortlessly from a disciplined, operatic soprano to a playful, nasal punk snarl, often within the same phrase. While her early work with Bravo is grounded in tight, danceable beat music, her solo material drifts into more surreal, avant-pop territory, always anchored by her 'Martian' persona and a sense of kitsch that feels deeply authentic.

Start with her 1980s hits like 'Zheltie Botinki' or 'Chudesnaya Strana' to hear the definitive sound of the Perestroika-era underground. These tracks capture the moment when Russian rock found its most colorful and vocally gifted icon, blending Western rockabilly swing with a uniquely Slavic sense of wonder.

Zhanna Khasanovna Aguzarova (Russian: Жа́нна Хаса́новна Агуза́рова; born July 7, 1962) is a Soviet and Russian singer, former vocalist of the group Bravo, who made a solo career. Singer No. 3 of the Soviet Union after Sofia Rotaru and Alla Pugacheva in 1986–1988. For an extremely eccentric, on the verge of kitsch, style of clothing, journalists call Aguzarova the "goddess of shocking" and compare her to Lady Gaga. In her few interviews, she often talks about her extraterrestrial origin and "internal connections" with the Martians.
