Released in 2007, Fiction is widely regarded as one of Dark Tranquillity's most balanced and successful efforts, synthesizing the aggression of their early work with the experimental electronics of their middle period. It marked the return of several elements from their 'Projector' and 'Haven' eras, most notably Mikael Stanne's clean baritone vocals and the use of guest female vocals (Nell Sigland of Theatre of Tragedy). The album is also notable for the lyrical return of guitarist Niklas Sundin on 'Inside the Particle Storm,' contributing a more abstract, scientific, and apocalyptic tone to the record.
